General Radiology

Imaging units with the latest diagnostic equipment are available at The Harley Street Clinic's main site at 35 Weymouth Street and at our Diagnostic Centres at Devonshire Street (5 minutes walk) and in New Malden in South West London. Both of these Diagnostic Centres have the latest MRI scanners – including 3T capacity at the Devonshire Street facility which additionally has a low-dose CT scanner and x-ray/ultrasound. New Malden has digital mammography, and x-ray/ultrasound. The central Imaging Department at 35 Weymouth Street has access to both of these Centres plus a wide range of imaging modalities including CT within the main Harley Street Clinic building.

Radiology

Radiology is the name given to a wide range of medical imaging technologies - such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - used to diagnose and assess diseases.

CT Scanning

CT Scanning (Computed Tomography) combines x-ray and computers to produce 3D images.

It is a quick, non-invasive diagnostic examination that can investigate any area of the body, and allows the radiologist to assess the nature, location and extent of a disease.

The Clinic has the latest 64 Slice CT scanner which offers even more accurate results. This technology now allows Consultants to perform advanced diagnoses in such areas as CT colonography and CT coronary angiography.

MRI Scanning

MRI scans give the best soft tissue contrast of all the radiology imaging.

With advances in scanning speed and spatial resolution, and improvements in computer 3D algorithms and hardware, MRI has become an essential tool in musculoskeletal radiology and neuroradiology.

The Harley Street Clinic MRI service is provided in conjunction with The Portland and The Princess Grace Hospitals.

Ultrasound

A simple, safe and painless procedure, ultrasound bounces high frequency sound waves off different parts of the body to form an image.

Ultrasound can be used to capture a range of moving images, from the urinary and thyroid systems to abdominal function and the male reproductive system. Images of blood moving through veins and arteries can also be captured using ultrasound enhanced with a special Doppler technique.

General X-Ray

Our Imaging Unit is equipped with a full complement of advanced technology, so we can offer patients a complete range of services.

Tumour Ablations

Traditional therapies for cancer include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. More recent advances have added another tool to the anti-cancer arsenal – thermal ablation, whereby tumours are heated or cooled to temperatures that cause the tumour cells to die.

This treatment was pioneered at The Middlesex Hospital (UCLH) where Professor Bill Lees and Dr Alice Gillams, who are internationally renowned experts in this field, run one of the longest established and largest practices in the world. The Harley Street Clinic established this service in 2000 when it was the first private hospital in the UK to offer this therapy.
