The environment
We have 18 private rooms, a playroom and consulting and echocardiology suites. There is also a state-of-the-art PPCU (Paediatric Progressive Care Unit) with five beds. Families are welcome and a parent or carer can stay overnight too.
The unit's dedicated play specialists provide age-related games, toys and activities. They also help prepare children for their hospital experience.
The unit is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for elective and emergency admission. Children's care is constantly supervised by nurses specifically registered to look after sick children and young people. All staff understand the special needs of these age groups. The ratio in our ITU is 1:1, and on the Paediatric ward 3:1. We also have an experienced team of interpreters.
