| Biography Biography
Born and educated in Zimbabwe. Trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in South Africa and UK before taking up a consultant post in NHS at Ashford hospital (Middlesex) in 1996. This hospital later merged with St Peter’s Chertsey and Mr. Bloomfield was appointed clinical director of the combined orthopaedic department in 2002. As clinical director, Mr. Bloomfield was instrumental in commissioning 3 laminar flow theatres and supporting infrastructure at Ashford hospital, enabling the Trust to meet or exceed government targets for orthopaedic surgery. These improvements were backed up by ring fencing one of the wards for elective surgery only and introducing a strict MRSA exclusion policy.
Mr. Bloomfield’s current clinical interests concentrate on lower limb surgery; especially hip resurfacing (McMinn or Birmingham hip). He has performed over 800 resurfacings and continues to believe that it is the procedure of choice for young, active patients with good bone stock. He is developing his skills in hip arthroscopy, which may be useful in situations where hip arthroplasty can be avoided, and for the treatment of soft tissue problems such as labral tears or loose bodies. |
